CryptoDickbutts, de op Ethereum (ETH) gebouwde non-fungible token (NFT) collectie, is ineens razend populair. Het dagelijkse handelsvolume van de collectie steeg afgelopen zondag op OpenSea met 690% naar 290 ETH (ongeveer $500.000). Dit volume zorgde ervoor dat de collectie naar nummer 6 op de ranglijst steeg. Op het moment van schrijven staat de collectie zelfs op nummer 1.
De collectie wist zelfs een aantal andere bekende projecten in te halen. CryptoDickbutts steeg boven projecten als Goblintown, Cool Cats en Art Blocks. Het volume is tevens met meer dan 135% gestegen over de afgelopen week.
De goedkoopste CryptoDickbutt van de tweede serie wordt op het moment verkocht voor 3 ETH, ofwel iets meer dan $5.100. Dit is een stijging van 31% in de afgelopen 24 uur en dat is tevens ook het hoogste punt waar een Dickbutt op heeft gestaan.
Toch is te zien dat de bodemprijs voor de collectie gelijk is gebleven, blijkt uit cijfers van NFT Price Floor. De stijging in prijs laat zien dat steeds meer investeerders enthousiast worden over zowel het project als de bijbehorende community. Ook wordt deze populariteit gedreven door de meme achter de NFT’s. Hoe je bij sommige projecten ziet dat ze steeds minder populair worden naarmate ze ouder worden, zie je bij CryptoDickbutts juist het tegenovergestelde.
De CryptoDickbutts zijn ontworpen door de stipboekartiest K.C. Green in 2006. De Dickbutts werden ook snel onderdeel van de internetcultuur doordat ze gemakkelijk te delen waren. Zo verschenen ze in een hele korte tijd enorm vaak in verschillende meme’s en op platformen als Reddit.
De eerste collectie, genaamd OG collection, is uitgegeven in maart 2021 en bevat 161 CryptoDickbutts NFT’s. In augustus 2021 kwam de tweede reeks, genaamd Series 3. Deze collectie bevat 5.200 NFT’s. Het project heeft verder geen roadmap maar is wel beheerd door een CryptoDickbutt Decentrale Autonome Organisatie (DAO). Bekende namen als Steve Aoki, Blondish en ProbCause bezitten zelf een Dickbutt.
