Sinds halverwege 2021 waren non-fungible tokens (NFT) ineens helemaal de rage binnen de crypto industrie. Het handelsvolume schoot omhoog en even leek er aan de hype geen einde te komen. Daar is nu al een tijdje verandering in gekomen. Sinds het begin van dit jaar is de interesse in NFT’s volledig in elkaar gezakt. Dat blijkt onder meer uit het recente handelsvolume.
Volgens data van Footprint Analytics is het handelsvolume van NFT’s in het tweede kwartaal van 2022 met maar liefst 40% gedaald ten opzichte van het eerste kwartaal. Dat wordt beweerd in het ‘2022 Q2 Industry Report’. Hoewel het jaar dus goed begon voor NFT’s, ziet het er een paar maanden later een stuk minder rooskleurig uit.
Eerder dit jaar stroomde er volgens Footprint Analytics nog een grote hoeveelheid kapitaal richting de NFT sector. Dit had destijds alles te maken met de relatief lage prijzen binnen eigenlijk de gehele crypto industrie. Dat was ook het moment dat het NFT handelsvolume een record bereikte.
Vanaf mei van dit jaar kantelde het plaatje echter behoorlijk. Deze maand stond natuurlijk in het teken van veel onrust in de markt, en dit had ook grote gevolgen voor de NFT sector. Dat betekent dat het handelsvolume ook volledig onderuit ging in het tweede kwartaal van dit jaar.
“Halverwege mei kreeg de crypto markt echter te maken met aanzienlijke uitdagingen en koelde de NFT-markt af. Het NFT-handelsvolume daalde van $19,02 miljard in Q1 naar $11,26 miljard in Q2.”
Het is duidelijk dat Footprint Analytics een groot deel van de verdwenen interesse in NTFs toeschrijft aan problemen in de overkoepelende crypto markt. Uiteraard staan de koersen van de meeste cryptocurrencies ook nog steeds diep onder water.
Dat suggereert natuurlijk ook dat de interesse in NFT’s wel weer aantrekt zodra er sprake is van een serieus herstel in de crypto markt. Hoewel de NFT-hype even lijkt te zijn gaan liggen wil het dus niet zeggen dat deze voorgoed voorbij is.
