De hype en harde groei rondom non-fungible tokens (NFT) begon ergens begin vorig jaar en trok door tot mei 2022. Deze hype kwam in de gloriedagen van de cryptocurrency markt en wist te groeien door het positieve sentiment op de markt. Echter zien we nu dat bitcoin (BTC) toch niet zo goed meer gaat, de NFT markt mee zakt.
Het NFT ecosysteem heeft in juni tot nu toe het slechtst presteert ten opzichte van de andere maanden dit jaar. In totaal zijn er slechts 19.000 NFT’s verhandeld met een geschatte waarde van $13,8 miljoen. Een dergelijk laag volume zagen we voor het laatst een jaar geleden in juni 2021.Non-fungible tokens werden in het jaar 2021 enorm populair. Iedereen leek wel een plaatje van een aap of een ander gek mannetje te bezitten. Uiteindelijk bemoeide de sport industrie zich er ook mee om bepaalde fan tokens te maken. Deze hype bleek in 2022 toch steeds minder te worden na de harde daling van crypto die we over de gehele markt zagen.
Het NFT ecosysteem zag haar hoogste aantal verkopen op 24 september 2021. Op deze dag werden er ongeveer 224.000 NFT’s verkocht met een totale waarde van ongeveer $78 miljoen. Toch zagen we dat de beste dag voor NFT’s was op 1 mei 2022. In totaal waren er meer dan 118.000 NFT’s verkocht voor $780 miljoen in totaal. Het is duidelijk dat NFT handelaren gebruik maakte van de dip om wat NFT’s in te slaan.
Een aantal mogelijke redenen van de daling in NFT verkopen is de dalende ethereum (ETH) koers, de hoge ethereum transactiekosten, ofwel gas fees, en een lage interesse van nieuwe handelaren om de NFT markt in te stappen. Hierdoor zien we dat de marktwaarde van de NFT sector met 40% is gedaald. Wellicht dat de interesse in de NFT sector weer aantrekt, nadat de koersen van bitcoin (BTC) en ethereum weer voorzichtig herstellen.
