Lamborghini heeft de allerlaatste auto uit de beroemde Aventador serie geproduceerd. De legendarische automaker wil dat vieren door de sportauto als een non-fungible token (NFT) te veilen. Dat kondigt Lamborghini op 5 april aan:

Deze Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Coupé is tevens de allerlaatste Lamborghini ooit die nog puur op benzine draait. De volgende reeks Lamborghini’s worden allemaal hybride auto’s, en ook dat wil de automaker vieren.
De Lamborghini is daarnaast ook de allereerste 1:1 NFT van een supercar in de ‘metaverse,’ meldt de autofabrikant. De NFT wordt geveild via RM Sotheby’s, dat is de tak van het grootste veilinghuis ter wereld gericht op de veiling van auto’s.
Voor de NFT werkt Lamborghini samen met artiesten Krista Kim en Steve Aoki. Kim maakt het visuele kunstwerk voor de NFT terwijl DJ Aoki een soundtrack maakt voor de NFT. De NFT komt ook met een virtuele ontmoeting met deze beroemdheden, een privétour van het Lamborghini museum en previews van de nieuwe Lamborghini modellen. Een echte ontmoeting zat er blijkbaar niet in.
“Lamborghini en de NFT-gemeenschap passen heel goed bij elkaar, omdat we veel waarden delen. We zijn allebei jonge vernieuwers, op zoek naar onverwachte projecten en technologische oplossingen. Dit project is heel speciaal voor ons, want het is een echte primeur, een pad dat niemand ooit heeft bewandeld.”
Aldus Stephan Winkelmann, CEO van Automobili Lamborghini. “Lambo’s” zijn een enigszins controversieel item in de crypto-wereld. Een paar jaar geleden was het populair voor gelukkige vroege investeerders om een Lambo te kopen om met hun rijkdom te pronken. Dat vonden veel mensen erg smakeloos.
De veiling gaat op 19 april van start. Naar verluidt verwacht Lamborghini maar liefst $5 miljoen op te halen. Het is overigens niet de eerste NFT veiling ooit van Lamborghini. In februari veilde de autofabrikant zijn “Space Time Memory” NFT collectie.
