De adoptie van cryptocurrencies zoals bitcoin (BTC) begint op stoom te komen. Echter kijkt de crypto-gemeenschap nog altijd naar grote namen als Google, Amazon en Apple voor een serieuze versnelling in de adoptie van crypto voor real-world toepassingen. De CEO van Amazon sprak zich onlangs in een interview met het Amerikaanse CNBC uit over crypto en non-fungible tokens (NFT).
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, die Jeff Bezos opvolgde, werd door Andrew Ross Sorkin gevraagd naar crypto. De interviewer kon het niet laten, “het is moeilijk om crypto niet te benoemen in een interview, zeker als betaalplatform. En jullie hebben een groot betaalplatform, dus hoe denk jij over crypto?” vroeg Sorkin:
“Nou, ik denk dat het een opkomende industrie is die erg interessant is. Ik denk dat NFT’s echt een vlucht beginnen te nemen.”
Aldus de Amazon CEO. Vervolgens werd hem gevraagd of hij zelf een NFT of bitcoin bezit, maar daar was het antwoord “nee” op. Wel verwacht de CEO dat NFT’s zullen blijven groeien, echter is Amazon “niet dichtbij het toevoegen van crypto als betaalmethode.” Toch gooit de CEO de deur voor crypto niet volledig dicht:
“Maar ik geloof echt dat je crypto na verloop van tijd groot zal zien worden en het is mogelijk … op den duur is het mogelijk,”

Amazon is vaker in het crypto nieuws voorbij gekomen. Afgelopen zomer ging nog het gerucht rond dat Amazon betalingen met onder andere bitcoin en cardano (ADA) zou gaan ondersteunen. Helaas blijken die geruchten ongegrond te zijn, met de CEO die nu dus stelt dat het nog lang niet zover is.
Desalniettemin zit de adoptie van crypto in een stroomversnelling. De CEO van ‘s werelds grootste vermogensbeheerder BlackRock verwacht dat de huidige oorlog in Oekraïne de adoptie nog verder kan versnellen.
